Every time you are moving, something gets broken. This time I am talking about my language skills. Sorry, but if you are still interested in my blog, you can find it here: www.janprochazka.eu. I am going to write it in Czech, but sometimes I will also write in English (about biggest international events). The reason is that it took a lot of energy to write in English. I hope that I will update my blog more frequently this time...

WOC 2011 one good result, but...

It is nearly two weeks since I drink Redbull with Whisky before banquet and was really pissed off by my performances in forest during WOC 2011.

But not all was going badly. I had really good start to Championship on the sprint. I was number eight pretty close to podium. My performance on the sprint was really good I had a good control and my running speed was OK. In the end I felt bit tired, but still this was my second best individual result on World Championship and I have to be satisfied!

Middle 32nd place
First disaster came on the middle distance. I spend a lot of time in French forests before WOC, but even this was not enough to handle this terrain. I was poor technically and surprisingly also my running speed was really slow. I finished 32nd and was pretty disappointed. I was watching GPS in the evening and was really surprised how the best orienteerers can handle the terrain. The best example is route choice of Thierry and Peter to the 7th control.

The last event was the relays. They were always top event of every Championship for me and I never run badly there until this year. I finally got a last leg, but not because of my fabulous performances during WOC, but because there was not anyone better in our team. Tomas did a perfect job on the first leg, but miss a bit in the end. Adam make a perfect run on the second leg, but he miss again in the end on the control in the depression. I started 13th and run well just few controls and then I lost all my self confidence and miss a lot. It was still possible to finish on 8th spot, but I fail even in this mission and we were 12 far away from the bests.

Finally Big congratulations to Martina, Eva and Dana. I was a strong feeling to see that their dream became a truth! And also thanks to Radovan, Lalla and Pearman Muros!

My feelings after WOC are not the best, but season is still not over. Right now I am really disappointed especially by my performance in relays and I will do all I can to repair it on the World Cup in Liberec!

Was it too serios? So one joke, I am searching some pulse massager to get my hamstring back to condition. There are many of them in different coulours on dealextreme.

already had successful summer holidays with many good results. For example some of them are Czech Champions and European Champions. The others manage to sucesfully finish pretty extreme challenges or change to cycling like Nurci and Hannu:

I am still waiting for my results, which I can add on the list. Fortunately the waiting time is getting shorter and WOC2011 is coming closer. I spend whole June in the mountains and in the beginning of July we had the last training camp with the Czech team. During that time I got finally pretty good felling during sprint training in Annecy and made few solid runs on the WOC relevant maps. Here are examples from Czech team mass starts intervals and middleQ (quite the same as Finnish selection races):

Finally the time of the preparation is over and time of the competitions is coming. The last weekend I run the most important competitions before WOC the Czech team selections races for WOC 2011. I didn’t have enough experiences with French terrain and It is still difficult to stay focused all the time and run without any major mistake in this terrain. I didn’t run well on competitions, but it was still enough to get a place in Czech team. So let's get ready for middle, sprint and relays!

Right now I am I Chamrousse on high altitude training camp. Me, Seda and Kody decided to combine map trainings with high altitude effect, so we are staying in high altitude and every second day traveling to WOC area for two maps trainings. Next week we will spend in WOC area even more time, because we will join Czech team training camp.

Czech Championship in brainless running (10km on track)

There are some reasons why I was running non-forked legs in last 2 years on 10mila. Our “team supporter” Borje always makes a jokes about some brainless runner from Central Europe. About one month ago I felt really happy when I found out that I am not only one brainless runner. There is Czech Championship in the brainless running. The rules are quite simple: You have to run 25 rounds on the track as fast as you can. What a race!

Saturday 14th May was a day of 31min and 45sec running without brain and with huge pain. Before the race I wanted to challenge 31min border, but after 6km I felt totally destroyed and move my aim to 31:50. That was a double time of Czech team track and field time (We have to run 5km in 15:55 for selection to WOC sprint). I manage to do it and I was 7th best brainless runner. Stepan Kodeda finished just behind me as 8th best brainless runner and that results just showed to Finns from KR his real character!

On Sunday I was too lazy to travel to Opava for Czech Cup, especially when I was not alone who makes this decision. I run pretty nice national competitions in terrain with many small details and really stony ground. This is one of the best terrains you can find in the Czech Republic. It took me 3 controls to start my brain after Saturday and I was losing bit over one minute after small mistakes in the beginning. Afterwards my performance was pretty good, just speed was bit lower. I finished 2nd about one minute behind Jan Sedivy.

I am 7th best brainless runner, but am I also brainless reader?

Tomas Dlabaja must have dynamite in his legs, or I cannot understand how he managed to lose two minutes on the control number 14? Or is he able to run leg which are basic runners running over 1 min in 30s?
I guess Jan Mrazek still did not pass his Math exam, because when I tried to count how many runners from SK Praga beat him on Sunday and I am getting different results…

Our motto was this year, all the clubs have same chance to win Tiomila competition and we have to do our best, if we want to win again. Before the start we are Zero and let’s see who will be the Hero in the morning.

I started my preparation before the race in the mood of Halikko relays and try to use spike shoes during 10mila competition. (Un)fortunately my attempt was discovered and I have to change my running shoes to do not disqualify our team.

My performance on the shortest and non-forked leg was pretty good. I used cooperation with SNO and Pål Skogtjärn and we run without major mistakes and with pretty good speed all the time. You can watch my performance from GPS route.

From GPS of 7th leg it looks like I was leading the group all the time, but like Matthias wrote never trust the GPS. I was following SNO team in the beginning quite much, because I didn’t have permission to run from our coach Pipo, but in the finish I can tell myself proHAASKA you are Hero and I have to wait overall result of our team. After perfect performances of Pena, Fabu and Tero we did it again: We are Tiomila winners 2011! and I am already waiting next year!

I spend Easters in really nice terrains around Tis u Blatna and Rabštejn. Those terrains are famous all around the world, because of WOC 1991 classic distance. The performance of Sixten Sild made a legend and new word was established in Czech. Sild means "to go straight". The best example is his famous routechoice to 4th control:

This time I could not follow his steps, because I do not have to prepare for long leg on Toimila, like last year. This year I am getting ready for short and technical performance and my night trainings were focused for this:

Czech night championship

I took part on the Czech Night Championship after the long time. I ran my last night championship in the junior class. This year there was a big change in the system of the competition. It was a first time we run the Night Champs with the mass start. I was against mass start before the competition and sign the petition against this system…

In the end mass start course was quite interesting for the runners with many surprises like map exchange I the middle of the forest. On the one hand this made the courses more interesting, but on the other hand on-line results were hectic, because loops were pretty different… The question is what was the reason to introduce mass start? The course was not more spectacular for the fans in the competition area, because we run trough just once and it was just 5min before the end. Maybe with the live GPS tracking it might be more interesting. This is a challenge for the next years for next organizers. In overall, the mass start competition was really good preparation for the real night top of the spring season in two weeks: TIOMILA 2011

The results reveal that I am getting ready for it! My run was pretty good nearly without any mistake and with quite good speed, but I still have to keep in mind the difference between Continental and Scandinavian terrains!

Us you can see I did hardly find the time to update my blog in last months and even this article will be quite poor, but I promise it will be better in following weeks. First of all I am going to run Czech Night Champs this weekend. After that I am spending Easters with famous BT team on BT training camp and finally I will be ready to rock on 10mila!

It is nice to read facebook statuses and emails of Finns from Joensuu. There is about -30 and I could easily remember how it feels to train in this weather, on the other hand, there is coming a lot of positive altitude from Joensuu and I am looking forward for next week and Portugal training camp!

I made some winter core training with highlight during skiing training camp in Sumava on the beginning of February. This time I didn’t win, because our common skiing sessions with Seda had score about 0:6 for Seda, but lot of training hours in 5 days and nice weather were just great.

Last weekend I took part in the running competition Svatojansky beh, improve local track record and got a great chemistry (picture above) for my Skoda as price! Just perfect, but you cannot stay all the time on the top. I understand this after reading about unsuccessful performance of Mraz during his preparation for marathon and have same feeling during Czech team training camp in Hradec Kralove. This camp was just perfect and you can watch the maps and results here. I just come back to my junior times and run all the trainings with totally destroyed hamstring (stupid), instead of having a break. Let’s rest now and climb back to the peak during POM2011 in two weeks!

Winter weekends with Czech team

Czech team has a new strategy during this winter. We have training camps every second weekend during January and February.

First training camp was from 21nd till 23rd January in snowless Slovakia. Unfortunately I was a bit sick after coming back from Honolulu so I ran just two trainings with a low speed. We are exploring different parts of our country during those weekends training camps and in a combination (Not Ari Pekka Combination!) with reduce maps (without routes etc.) we are training our orienteering technical skills:

Our Prague winter night cup F1 is also already in progress, but I was running just one training last week. Hopefully I will manage to run more during next two months.

After moving back from Joensuu I started again with my basic training, which I was used to do before. Part of this training program are running competitions so I took part in the 3km indoor Prague Championship and manage to run 3km just 0,4s slower than was my plan.

Tomorrow I am going to the skiing training camp with the Czech team. Program will be basic, like Markus did, or we did last year with KR in Vuokatti. This time I will miss my best training mate Jan Mrazek. He finally manage to make the best Kopyto, but we cannot use it together. What a pity! Hopefully I will teach Seda, what does it mean Hevonen hiihto…

Winter preparation is in full swing and skiing is part of it as usually. Last year was Hevonen Hiihto with Rumcajz and Krtecek the highlight of my winter season, but in the previous years it was always Krokonoska 70.
This weekend I started my preparation towards K70 2011 team competition on the adventure race around Jizerske Mountains. B5h was free order orienteering in the pairs with time limit 5 hours. It was bit cruel to ski for a first time this winter and made 65 km and 5 hours, but what did not kill you, makes you stronger.

I and Mr Lorenc were struggling in the non prepared track around controls 27, 26 and 9. Our hand are really weak us it is usual between runners, but overall it was a nice weekend and nice beginning of winter skiing.

I spend whole November in Joensuu. It was a hectic time as usually. Maybe even more hectic this autumn, because my school was just once a week… When I arrived to Joensuu, I just realize nothing has changed:

We have nice sports afternoons during Saturdays in Jere and Nurci flat.
Lunches last even longer time this year.
And Happohotteli is still open; even I did not find the time to visit it in my full hectic timetable…

But I find in Joensuu motivation for the next season during discussion with my teammates, Borje and Pippo. After really disappointing results during this season, I am ready for CHANGE and FUTURE!

Now I am back in warm Czech and waiting Grand Canarias training camp with Kalevan Rasti in the beginning of January.

But still my poor season was enough to take 3rd place in O-gala. This price is not honorable, but shows how poor results did Czech men team have in overall… I can promise we will be back and much stronger next year!

After WOC my blog nearly die. I was running quite many orienteering competitions, but without any bigger success. Main problem was that I have to finish my school. I made it successfully and now I am runner again!

I choose to end my season in the remote destination on PWT in China instead of running Smalandskavlen, because of that I was not able to upload my blog during last two weeks. Chinese internet does not screen blogspot.com or FB. PWT China was a perfect trip for the end of the orienteering season and tonight I am going to watch performance of my friends on Smalanskavlen just on the computer screen.

First stage was in the Olympic park. This was quite easy sprint competition for the beginning. As you can see from the map, there were not so many problems to solve, but it was the most important one with really nice opening and closing ceremony and about thousand participants.

Second stage was much more interesting. We travel behind the Beijing and run middle WRE competition. In the beginning I had huge problems to read the map and when it starts to be bit more easily, I made nearly 3min mistake and my race was over.

Last stage was typical PWT competition in pretty complicated park around UNESCO heritage Summer Palace. It was organized by PWT and Nordic Ways.

PWT in China was not just about the competitions, but it was really interesting trip with perfect group of people. So thanks to organizers for opportunity to come to China and other runners for really nice time we have together. Now season is over and my blog alive again!

After a long time I have to return back to WOC 2011. We did not have access to the internet during the WOC and just after I have a lot of work with my Master Thesis…

Sprint:

This was my biggest goal and biggest disappointment during WOC. I did make the same as Fabu and redraw whole map to OCAD with use of old maps and street-view. You can never trust this kind of the map and I am worse mapmaker compare to Swiss precision…

I did not success in the course setting. I did not set courses, but I try to find challenging legs:

Unfortunately, I did not find any of real competition route choice.

My preparation give me a lot info about the terrain, but in the end nearly all route choices were equal and my poor performance was caused by terrible running shape…

Long:

This was a challenge for me. I was aiming for middle, but after winning long on Czech selections, I have to run it also on WOC. My goal was to be around 15th place. My final 16th place means satisfaction for me and my performance in my worst discipline.

We did expect a lot from long distance. I was waiting a huge challenge in the Nordic terrain. In the end our course was this kind of challenge just for first kilometers. After that we have to solve butterfly, make route choice over private areas and run trough competition center. What a boring course in such nice terrain…

Relay:

We are never enough good to win a medal. Tomas did a perfect job on the first leg and change me to me in the leading group, but I was too passive I did not use opportunity to split the group during my shorter forking. Actually I was never in the lead during the second leg. This is bit unusual for my relay performance. I change to Michal Smola in the leading group, but left him longer forking in the end. This was extremely difficult situation for Michal and even after his very good performance we finished on 5th place.

WOC 2010 is getting closer and closer. Our Czech Team is not living in the official accommodation offered by organizers, but we are staying in the middle of nature in the cross-coutry skiing clubhouse near to Klaebu. Our accommodation have just one disadvantage, we have to travel a lot during WOC.

On the other side there are many advantages. Do you want to see them? Do you want to meet us? Our fans, supporters and friends are welcome!

It was really nice week in Borlange and my last competitions before WOC in Trondheim. Organizers of WUOC 2010 from my former club Stora Tuna did a perfect job and all the competitions have really nice atmosphere!

I ran long on Tuesday as a test race for WOC long. Unfortunately, I was still destroyed from previous training camp in Trondheim and did not reach my usual speed.

Sprint was in the city of Borlange and my performance was much stronger than in the previous long distance. Competition terrain was again really similar to WOC 2010 sprint area and it was a good test! Hopefully, my running speed will rise in following two weeks!

Today we run the most important relay competition! It was difficult to select the teams for our coach of Czech team. In the end we split the team to youngsters and MASTERS. Tomas Dlabaja started our MASTER team pretty well and change to Jan Sedivy on the top positions, just before youngsters. Seda ran the best time on the second leg and change to me in the lead. I started quite aggressive, but run out of energy soon. After that Johan Aronsson from Sweden took a lead and run away from me, FUCK. But I did not find any extra energy to follow him. Still this is silver for our MASTER team! JOOO

After lonely Bulgaria, I was part of KR team in crowded Jukola. I did run first leg and my orienteering was out of control as you can see from my GPS

My first top of season were Jukola and Czech selection races in Trondheim. I had to change my plans and start to focus on new and LONG challenge after those competitions ...

Last week Czech team have training camp in Trondheim and my orienteering skills were falling down. Time for REST from the map.

Our Coach is big star of worldofo.com and before WOC he requires mistake less performances even during traveling in a car.

Because on today route to Borlange we did visit one nice festival in Norway Mountains :) The only problem was that we did know anything about the Festival beforehand.

And maybe I am not alone. What is the reason of EOC? To arrange competitions just for best runners and give IOF diplomas and IOF medals without spectators and with poor media coverage? What about live-GPS? And what about…

On the other side competitions are interesting and our 5th place (ok 7th…) in relays is really good! My performance was good, but there is still something to improve. Thanks to Bingo and Olaf for nice runs...

LANGA NATTEN 2010 – the story of one leg

My place in the KR team on Tiomila was on the third leg, non-forked langa natten. I did have a phone call in the week before 10M with our national team coach Radovan:

Radovan: By the way, which leg are you going to run?
Me: Langa natten
Radovan: Are you so poor, or what happened?

I did start to understand his words after talking with our experienced runners Tommi and Miika. My task was easy, just stay in the contact with Halden and Kristiansand. No problem, on non-forked course, but something against my view of orienteering.

This task becomes bit more difficult after my start. I catch the leaders of my starting group on the second control, but I did not see Halden or Kristiansand. Ok, I have to reboot my system and take northern direction with full speed. Some teams did follow me and finally I reach the route and use my running skills. Only Bekkelaget manage to stay with me all the time. When I climb up to the hill before 3rd control, I saw I big group approaching 3rd control. Perkele! At least my route choice was equal… What a kind surprise, there is Järla and Stora Tuna. I just climb up trough group and I saw THE MASTER in front and Kristiansand just behind! YEP! WE ARE BACK!

Just watch the movies and go twice a day for the o-training, what the life. I did spend two last weeks with this easy lifestyle, firstly in the France with the Czech national team. there was written already much about our cooperation with the Swedish team. The result was the best training camp I have ever been. My runs on the measured trainings were quite good, but I was quite poor in the low speed trainings.

I spend just two days in Joensuu and we were traveling again to Sweden. Southern Sweden is destination without the snow, but pretty far from Joensuu. With some Longeros on the boat, it was possible to survive over 24h of traveling.

Times are changing, during pressure training Miika was not able to follow Kalle and during 10M test Kalle beat me badly...

Our coach Pipo just find out that I lost my brain somewhere on the way from France. This results in quite good runs in night mass start training (half on the rouds and avg speed 4:18 in the night!) and in the competition, but also in two 5min mistakes during night’s trainings…

My preformance on 10M test was not the best. I did find 5th and 3th control twice and 4th control I did not find at all (there was a flag on the knoll next to the right one and I did not know that)

5min searching for the control number 7 in second round take away all the pressure during pressure training...

Finally, today I manage to run 5km for 15:25 (3:06, 3:04, 3:06, 3:06, 3:03) in Joensuu Areena. The track is in really poor condition there and I was running alone, so I am quite satisfied with the result. Thanks to Pipo for timekeeping, Ape for shooting the videos, Jere for last km help and Hannu for starting feeling :)

I am now selected to EOC and WOC sprint and it is time to get ready for this competitions. The rest of the Czech team have selection races this weekend. Hopefully trio Jan Mrazek, Jan Sedivy and Petr Losman will take last places in the team, I am with you!

France NEXT

I am leaving for the training camp to the France with Czech team. I am looking forward, because program looks challenging.

Kalevan Rasti team is on the training camp in Bulgaria right now, so last days in Joensuu were quite silent and boring with an exception of Biathlon World Cup at the weekend. I did support Michal Slesinger well...

In the beginning of February, We did have training camp in Slovenia. I can recommend this destination to everyone. More info is on CZE webpages or JEva.

Finally the highlight of article, two weeks ago I did run 10km of road running Kbelská desítka. This competition does start in the same village, where Jan Šedivý is living. Unfortunately, strong snowstorm during night covered the entire track with snow so times were poor. It is already over one week from the times when KR train was driving trough old railway in Arraiolos

We did quite much good training in the competition speed. The highlight was maybe night mass-start with the speed under 5min/km and wet and marshy ground. The most important was that all the KR runners manage to finish nearly in the same time.

Riding with KR train around Arraiolos destroy me quite much and I was not able to compete on the POM, but times of the winners were amazing…

After coming back into Finland, nice weather was waiting us again. I just realize that it is better to check temperature before going to run. -35 is too much…

Fortunately weather starts to be smart and it looks that temperature will not decrease under -20 anymore. That is good news, because it is already start to speed up, after long and cold winter!

Any post already for the one month, but not because of boring time, I just get frozen immediately after my arrival into the Finland.

I can tell you that 160min long run in the -23 can make you drunk for free :)

I can tell you that not just sun-bathing, but also freeze-bathing can destroy your face skin…

I can tell you what it means Hevonen hiihto (horse skiing = speeding in the uphills) with Krtek and Rumcajs...

I can tell you what does it mean to ski distance from Prague to Brno and run from Joensuu to Vuokatti in the one week. Actually this stupidity destroys my knee again and shows me red alert light. Fortunately nothing dangerous and knee looks OK again… More about training camp in Vuokatti is on SP blog.

Last week weather started to be warm again (around -7), but soon I will disappear to the Portugal. Hopefully red alert light in my knee already turn into the green light and I will be able to run POM 2010.

I run my first and for the long time last orienteering training. It was line orienteering (about 13km) and we were running same course as in the 1999. There were some improvements. We got part of the course on the new map and also there were time beneficiations somewhere on the course.

We did huge mistake in the beginning, because we did not see the road under the snow. But biggest problem came after 15min of running, when my headlamp shot down again. Fortunately Mr. Wireman Lorenc together with Heppy and klacky.cz repair my contact with the branch and I can finish this nice training. Thanks for the help!

The final time was slower compare to the times from 1999 and I was beaten by Heppy due to his better time benefits.

I came to Joensuu yesterday and there should be test run tomorrow, but my temperature shows -20 right now. It looks that it will be difficult to beat times from December.

The solution is clear last years. We are running around (along) Sazava river (Posázavská stezka). It is around 30km.

This track suits to everyone as you can see. Zhaly.kom is this year winner, because he was the cleverest one. Klacky.cz were training for the rogaining and come one hour later…

But the biggest hero was Boky due to his run and also his driving skills:

I am still in Joensuu, but I got some prices in the Czech Republic due to my "performances" (mainly due to Michal's act of humanity) during 2009 season.

We got a Fair play price from Eqiuca Company with Tomas Dlabaja and Michal Smola during Global Cooling Conference.

The Same price (Fair play) we get from Vavrys, Českomoravský Cement and finally also from TOI TOI on the Czech Orienteering Season Ending. THANKS! We will use this support in the best way to be again in the top during Trondheim relay competition.

I was also awarded as number 4 foot orienteer of this season. The winner was clear, Dana Brozkova, congratulation.

Last acknowledgment is for our coach and his countenance on the photos. I can never looks better there:)

The things are changing in our team. The aim is clear, find out how to be even better and do “old fashioned tactic with no mistake” (Tero, autumn 2009).

First kick out towards the season was in the Koli and I can tell you we will be strong next year!

I was an example, that not every time the fastest man in the starting point is not the fastest in the forest. My problem was a respect from the terrain this time…

Thursday was better, but still not a perfect

On Saturday Pipo prepare daylight training, it was pretty fast terrain with the soft ground. I have terrible felling whole course and loose 2min to Hannu.

We did 110min of running on Sunday with Aaro, Hannu and koira. The dog was really stupid and follows us about 10km and than disappear somewhere. The highlight of the training was short sprint after 70min of running. It was fun mainly for the dog. He was happy that we speed up and split up…

First training week of 2010 season is over and it was not boring at all:

I started my training year on Monday by night-o. It was not successful, because my battery charger was broken. Unfortunately I realize it in the middle of forest, when my head lamp switched off. I was able to come back, just due to full moon shining…

There was another night-o on Thursday and I found my old halogen headlamp. Everything goes well until I stuck in a dense forest. My lamp cable was disconnected from the battery, but I was not able to connect it again. I was missing one important part: This time Johanes save my life, thanks!

Lastly, we did rogaining training with Hannu on Saturday. It was fortunately in daylight, but night snowing makes it more challenging. There were two parts 1,5h of biking and 1,5h of running. We are really good bikers. Our average biking speed was 5:30 and running 6:30 per km. This clearly shows our biking skills…

Top level of stupidity

I did not feel really guilty after last year disqualification on Halikko relays (I cross the field) and this year I try to repair my performance, but I just manage to reach top level of stupidity and disqualify our team for second time…

Thanks everyone of KR team for great performances and I am sorry. ANTEEKSI!

I just give up race, because Hiisirasti and MS Parma run away from me and there is too short way to catch them

I can still safe our result, if I watch the map or the field on the right side, but I did not do it.

Now I already punch last control and I am running to the finish, together with winning team. I am confused and do not understand what is going on??? But my map is still somewhere deep in the pocket…

I manage to punch finish and now I have short chat with Rane, he is asking me, why I did not run last loop?

Fuck! I just realize that mistake, but it is too late. I already punch finish line. Never mind I will try to finish this race, but I was for 90 percent sure that we will be disqualified…

Some explanations:
We were the only leg, which was running to that part of forest and I did not expect it. I was checking whole course after the start, but every time stop on the 15th control. I just realize that I am not reading the map, when I am approaching competition center and this was also reason of my WOC middle disqualification.

Let’s learn from the mistakes and improve my skills for FUTURE…

I ran 3km hurdles yesterday, without any improvement from the last year. I run Czech Team Championship and my team Olymp Praha finished on 3rd spot. I run exactly same time like last year 9:27. I can be satisfied, because this was my first run on the athletic track after two months!

My performance on the course was quite ok, without any big mistake. I finished on 13th place, but unfortunately did not run trough compulsory spectator leg from spectator control. There was not any info about the compulsory leg before the competition and I did not see it in the map during the competition. Unfortunately I did not read control description on the spectator control.

I was disqualified after complain of German team. I am still thinking this was a mistake of organizers (no info about spectator leg before competition), but Jury had a different opinion…

Today course was really nice. Road-choice to the first control was faster from the left (Mats was running from the right and I beat him with one second. Pretty big difference :) I did about 3:30 min of mistakes and I have to avoid them for the final!

Results (I was running M1)

I have no story from the forest, but Mraz have nice foxhole story form the first control. Mr. Fox was running same heat like Mraz, but with control descriptions from Slovak Karst cup. What a pity, fortunately Mr. Fox is still 23 years old, so he has O-future in front of him.

And Mraz problem was that he rides an elephant to the pre-warning for 2,5min, but he is a hero, because he won three split times.

SP Finland and Jukola 2009

SP1 MIDDLE
Everyone knows how to run in the terrain in south of Finland. I hear this sentence after running Silja Rastit in the spring. Nordic runners are really good in this kind of the terrain and it is difficult to beat them. I manage to run good orienteering just with small mistakes and finish on 17th place.

Weather was pretty windy, because I cannot find other explanations of GPS route difference to the northeast control in the butterfly. I have to discuss that with GPS expert...

I did not expect anything from this competition, but was kindly surprised after finishing on 8th place (Fortunately Jan Mrazek did not find time to take part in this competition, so I am number 7 in the results. We were traveling basic 7 hours to the Finn Spring competitions near Vaasa, but this time it was not wasting of the time. Terrain on the west coast was challenging and difficult. It is funny to run classic distance in this kind of the terrain!

I was running quite well, but I was not able to use my running capacity in that kind of the terrain, because underground did not look like track and field tartan surface, where I am usually training. And it is also difficult to run butterflies, because we are coming from winter Joensuu and you cannot see here any butterflies…

After my classic distance performance, I got an opportunity to run last leg again, but I fail. I was caught by Pasi after 18 min of running by 1min and I try to follow him, but this was mission impossible in that kind of the ground surface for me. I was not able to read the map and did 2min mistake when Pasi disappear from my view…

My first Huippuliigan in Paimio

On Sunday I run Silja Rastit for the first time. This is first competition of Finnish Huippuliigan. It was middle distance near to Paimio. I did few small mistakes, because I did not understand that fastest routes are usually under the line. A have to repeat Sixteen Sild performance from WOC 1991 in CZE again and I can use it next week on the long distance competition during Finn Spring.

My running speed was not perfect, but my average heart rate was 187 during competition. Now I have intervals session in front of me and I should improve my running speed soon. I am not even writing about that I have more than half of the control under the sea level, but you can see it from altitude meter. I am not first, because controls in the middle of the sea are already well-known in Jan Mrazek blog, but he did not have time to pick them up this weekend:)

Our team goal on the 10M 2009 was to run errorless competition. Our aim was to do less than 10min mistakes and we did not success, because we made 14min of mistakes all together. Here is counting made by our coach Jukka:

I was running 1st leg and my performance was good. I was running in the top 10 nearly whole course and did not run full speed, but I try to do controlled orienteering. I did biggest mistake on the way to pre-warning just before finish, because I did not run around and stick in the (stuff) spruce forest for one minute… Maybe I was missing some special training in green hell?

Our Kalevan Rasti team finishes on the second place due to incredible performance of our joker on the last leg. This is good result, but we were aiming higher. Our goal for the next year is to give Tero opportunity to compete for the victory! And we can do it, just by errorless orienteering. Now we have to wait one more year to complete our mission.

I do not know, because my team mate lost his number and after that he lost 5 numbers of our first team just before the race start…
I was skiing in one downhill 55km/h, quite dangerous on my K-skies. I had to change them in the middle of the competition, because I lost my left ski from my shoe for 3 times. Fortunately I did not have this defect in any steep downhill…

Yesterday we were running other night-o training. Forest was really slow and best rout choices were around following the paths.

I was running well until 11th control. I did not find reflex there, but rest of the runners tells me that there was the reflex on the right place. I was only one who did not find this control in the finish, but I was sure that I visited right knoll. Fortunately my calculator gives me self-confidence, rest of runners just find first wrong knoll and continue in running… Unfortunately rest of the course destroy my self-confidence, because I was not focused on the orienteering any more. Last butterfly was just cherry on the cake, because 23rd control reflex was on the wrong object again and I was not able to adjust my GPS route to this part of the course…

So I finally went on air with GPS from PlanStudio. Test was conducted on cross-country running competition. The resulting curve was quite accurate, the picture shifts slightly due to the readability of the speed in both directions. It was pretty fast but hilly race, I did not have any mental power, because I fell myself pretty bad during the week (guess why? :), but it is better now, I was able to run under 3:20 / km 7.5 km. This time the 24 : 57

I am speaking about this week. Our Big Bloging Star in the category of home pets draws mental power from his bloging shape and transforms it to the running performance. On Monday he beat me, David and The biggest (Petr Losman) on track and field intervals, when he catch us by one round on the 500m (our time 1:20) interval and complete his victory on Wednesday night training. It is nice to have someone stronger, who can you train with, because it pushes you forward every time.

Right now I focus myself to another field. I am uploading my facebook profile every day, because Mr Jan Mrazek does not have any profile there and I feel some opportunity, because I cannot compete with him on the World Wide Web any more... Fortunately Pipo shows me today another nice net, where I can sign myself.

Teacher and student

My last article crucifies quality of the map, but my teacher of modern technology calculators teaches me, how to adjust the route. For the first time I use only 2 points, but now I adjust map with 10 points, because World champion explain me everything about orienteering maps during shitty shoes cleaning. I can crucify my performance now, because I did mistakes on the right placed controls (in exception of 11th) and wrong placed objects I found without any problem :)

This is question for the calculator and result is visible on the map (picture, colouring book, painting or cartoon). But it was still possible to run orienteering there, unfortunately not for me...

One stupid week

Czech team training camp in Zadov is every time same. You have to eat, train, sleep and sometimes do some regeneration. We broke those rules by farting competition, pool playing, 3bit eating and lemonade drinking.

I got new toy from our sponsor company Planstudio. I call it calculator and it watch over my exact position. This mean that my blog can compete again with Fart Cup winner. I was doing some training with this calculator and it was funny to see current speed during cross-country downhill skiing. This calculator could have to be useful during my autumn staying in Finland :), but I hope it will not be useful any more during this spring in Joensuu…

Night-o behind my house

Yesterday our winter night-o tour continues in the forest just behind my house. I have a small nap before this training, unfortunately it was really intensive one, like Pipo says, and I oversleep my alarm and wake myself at 18:30. I was in big hurry to catch start at 19h, but I did it. Fortunately biggest star Mraz does not take part on this competition, because he was testing his GPS in Milicak, so my intensive nap did not have any influence on my performance, because I did not need to compete with him. Our second star Sosak was working in the forest again and makes some GPS routing. My run was quite ok, but I know this forest very well…

7. competition of F1 - Middlovaté Rybníky

The second race in the prestigious series of F1, I tried to reverse my unpleasant position in the Gatorade Cup. The plan was well developed, but lost on 1 control. In the dark I was on right place, but control point was on the different object. Colleague Seda was helping me, and we did found control after some time. He has same story on the 19 control with Mraz and did not find it and run to the finish crying. But I keep a reward appear. I finally find rest of the controls and caught an average position in the finish :)

Nočák na Vídrholci

I went to Vidrholec to teach local orienteeres how are running national team members from the K-team. I chose night-o as it is for me one of most difficult disciplines (after prolonger middle). Results? I finished on a great second place. My biggest rival Sosák (for Sweden:The biggest, Findland iso K) gave me only 3.5 seconds, which is a really solid result. In addition, I cut Mraz, who trained in Vidrholec almost two years.

Every year on 25th we have a habit to run around Sazava River. About 30km with one turbo zone in the middle (about 6-7km along Sazava River - Posázavská stezka). We did the same this year.

Time goes on and I am leaving Joensuu soon. This week we were able to do some o-trainings, because snow gone. This map is from Wednesday night-o. I did quite big mistake in the second round…

Unfortunately I did not learn during this night, how is it, to run two night trainings during one night. We were doing 108min of orienteering with Pippo in the Thursday morning, but we start at 9h and we did not need headlamp any more… I still have something to learn and reason to come back again!

Sauna and K(píp)a culture of Finland: I am slowly learning and it is quite funny at the weekend in the Koli and now in the Vuokatti. About 3-5h of training helps me to understand our Keuroviesi team.

Newspapers in Finland

I was impressed when I see Finnish newspapers for the first time. There are no articles on the front page just advertisements. On the other hand, culture of regional newspapers is really well developed here compare to Czech Republic. I had my first contact with regional journalist yesterday and it was great experience for me. The journalist Petri Siitonen was well prepared for the interview and did not ask me stupid questions like during my last interview, where I explaining that our time loss on WOC was not 4 hours, but “only” 4 min, or that advantage of home soil WOC does not mean help from the tourist in the forest…

My yesterday interview gone well until journalist asks me for my track and field running times. When someone can run his first steeple for 9:28 in the hometown of Jukka Keskisalo, it means big story for local newspapers. In the end interview was more about track and field than about orienteering…

This week I already start to train and my leg seem to be ok, but rest of the body hurts me a lot after:

Resting for two weeks I destroy my body on: Hannus Wednesday Rokkijumppa (brutal), Thursday night-o with mass start, Friday Kiuruvesi team training where Robin Hood participate and finally today test run, where Jere our new team-mate beat me badly...

Now I am thinking what is better, to have pain just in the Achilles or everywhere on your body? But is time of vine and cheese party, but of course without wine!

I still have problem with my Achilles, so I didn’t run at all. But there is really good training altitude in Joensuu. You can hear challenging words like: Fuck off, or vittu.

Trainig camp Hungary

Little bit late, but better than nothing.

Qualification for Hungarian Long Distance Championship was tuff. I was two minutes behind the winner and last one going to the final.

Final was disaster for me because of my October running shape, but on the other side I did not do any big mistake, just some wrong routchoices and small mistakes. Unfortunately I destroy my achilles during the race...

I complete my successful autumn season in Kalevan Rasti. I was running 1st leg and did two small mistakes in the beginning, but catch them by increasing my running speed. It was an average performance for me in the forest.

Unfortunately I skip one part of my 1st leg running. I cross the field during my competition, just short peace, but I did it. It was not important for my performance in the forest, it does not help me anyhow, but it is forbidden to cross fields in Finland! I will remember it for next time, but I did not know it during my running…

Now our result depends on the other teams, if they are going to be kind and trust their performance in the forest, or they can protest against my running over the field and disqualified our KR team. Fear won the battle against sport competition and two unnamed teams file the protest and we were disqualified…

It looks now, that I am moving and going to run next season for new club in Kiuruvesi. Fortunately some friends are moving with me, for example Robin Hood.

This advice I got after finishing last leg on the 25manna. I started 20s behind Emil Wingsted and catch him on the 1st control, but lost him on the 5th control. I believe myself and lost there more than 3min. Most funny thing is, that we were 50m from the control point in the beginning, but I left him… Another fault comes on the 8 control, because I forgot to run on the 9th and run straight to the 10… Unfortunately 25 was not running competition like World Cup Final.

Middle:
It was easy going continental terrain and I didn’t get lost. It was just running competition and I did it quite well...

Sprint:
It was really beautiful sprint. Unfortunately we can explore this terrain before the competition, so it was not big surprise… I was number 6 in the world cup final race! Good!
